Antonio de Souza

Antônio de Souza CSS (born October 21, 1929 in Bom Jesus dos Perdões , Brazil ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and former bishop of Assis .

Life

Antônio de Souza joined the Order of the Stigmatines and was ordained a priest on July 1, 1956 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 9, 1974 Coadjutor Bishop of Assis and Titular Bishop of Egnatia . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Carmine Rocco , donated him episcopal ordination on April 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Hélio Paschoal CSS, Bishop of Livramento de Nossa Senhora , and José Lázaro Neves CM , Bishop of Assis.

With the retirement of José Lázaro Neves' CM, he succeeded him on July 20, 1977 as Bishop of Assis. On October 27, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
