Antanas Terleckas (born February 9, 1928 in Krivasalis , Wolost Saldutiškis , now Ignalina Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian dissident.

Life

Antanas Terleckas grew up in a farming family. He studied at the Progymnasium in Linkmenys with Ignalina . In 1949 he graduated from the Vilniaus prekybos technikumas in Vilnius . Then he studied at the Vilniaus Universitetas Faculty of Economics . From 1954 to 1957 he worked as a credit inspector in the Lithuanian branch of the State Bank of the Soviet Union and studied at postgraduate at the Institute of Economics of Lietuvos mokslų akademija .

In 1957 he was arrested and sentenced in 1958. He spent the sentence in Taischet concentration camp , in Irkutsk Oblast , Siberia . From 1964 to 1969 he studied history at the Vilniaus universitetas. In 1973 he was arrested again and spent a year in Lukiškės Prison in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius. From 1976 to 1977 he was co-editor of “Laisvės šauklys”. In the summer of 1978 he was co-founder of Lietuvos laisvės lyga . In 1979 he was arrested. He served the sentence in the Urals and then for four years in Magadan Oblast . In 1987 he came to Lithuania. In 1987 he was a co-organizer (with Nijolė Sadūnaitė , Vytautas Bogušis and Petras Cidzikas ) of a protest at the Adomas Mickevičius monument in the old town of Vilnius against the German-Soviet non-aggression pact .

In 2000 he became a member of the Panevėžys Municipality Council . From 2005 he was a member of the party Tvarka ir teisingumas (liberalai demokratai) narys.

His brother is the politician Vladas Terleckas (* 1939).

From 1951 Antanas was married to Elena Keraitytė-Terleckienė (1925-2010). There were three children in the family, including a daughter.
