Antero Kivelä (born December 26, 1955 in Pori ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper and coach , who played for Ässät Pori in the SM-liiga during his active time from 1972 to 1994 . After his career as a professional athlete, he became a local politician.

Career

Antero Kivelä began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Ässät Pori , for whose professional team he was initially active from 1972 to 1975 in the SM-sarja and then from 1975 to 1989 in its follow-up competition, the SM-liiga . The goalkeeper's greatest success with Ässät Pori was winning the Finnish championship title in the 1977/78 season . He played a major role in winning the title and was awarded the Urpo Ylönen trophy as the best goalkeeper in the league . With the championship title Ässät qualified for the European Cup by Kivelä leading his team to third place in the 1978/79 season . In the SM-liiga, the national player and his team were runner-up three times within five years (1979, 1980 and 1984). In the 1984/85 season , the 1980 Olympian stood a total of six times as a loan player for Jokipojat in the second-rate I divisioona between the posts.

From 1992 to 1994 Kivelä was the head coach for the second division club JHT Kalajoki . In the 1993/94 season he also returned to the ice for one game before finally ending his career at the age of 38. Kivelä has been a member of the city ​​council of his hometown Pori for the left-wing alliance since 2005 . Kivelä is also the president of the women's football club Nice Futis Pori .

International

For Finland , Kivelä took part in the junior division exclusively in the U19 European Junior Championship in 1974 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1978 and 1979 World Championships , as well as at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid .
