There is a well-known legend about the origin of the lake : three stately farms are said to have once stood here. When a beggar asked for alms on a church day, the residents of the farms turned him down hard-heartedly and without a charitable gift. The beggar is said to have threatened that a spring would rise behind the houses. And less than three days later a new spring began to gush there, and the water flooded the three farms as a result: Lake Anterselva was created.
