Anthony Ray Lynn (born December 21, 1968 in McKinney , Texas ) is a retired American football player as running back and current head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL . Before that, he worked as an assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys , New York Jets and Buffalo Bills , among others . As a player, he won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 1998 and 1999 .

Career

Career as a player

Lynn first played for his high school before he started working as a running back for Texas Tech University in 1988 . Because of a knee injury, he was not drafted in 1992 , he still signed a contract with the New York Giants , but they released him in the same year. This was followed by brief stints in Denver and San Francisco before returning to the Denver Broncos in 1997. In the following three seasons he won the Super Bowl twice, mostly he was used in the special teams . In 2000 he ended his active career.

Career as a coach

After retiring, Lynn first became a Special Teams Assistant at his old club, the Denver Broncos. This was followed by stations as a running back coach with several NFL teams, but his engagements were never long-lasting. In 2013 he became Assistant Head Coach for the New York Jets under coach Rex Ryan. He followed him to Buffalo in 2015 , where he was also Assistant Head Coach. After Ryan's dismissal in 2016, he acted as interim head coach for one game.

On January 12, 2017, Lynn was introduced as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers after his predecessor Mike McCoy was fired. At the same time it was announced that the Chargers will be moving from San Diego to Los Angeles . In his second year the Chargers could reach the playoffs, where they were defeated in the Divisional Round by the later Super Bowl winner New England Patriots with 41-28.

Private

Lynn has been married to journalist Stacey Bell since 2011. He has two children from a previous marriage.
