Anthony Steel

Anthony Steel (born May 21, 1920 in London , † March 21, 2001 in London ) was a British actor .

Life

Steel's father was an army officer in India ; he himself enjoyed a high school education in Cambridge and experienced the Second World War as a British soldier at the front. Shortly after the war ended, his goal was to become an actor. Thanks to his major and minor supporting roles in British comedies, crime novels and adventure films, he gained popularity in England in the 1950s .

After a few leading roles in Italian costume films, he gained notoriety in Germany in 1964 in the role of the greedy oil well owner Bud Forrester in Winnetou Part 2 .

Steel was married from 1949 to 1954 with Juanita Forbes from 1956 until 1959 with the Hollywood - Diva Anita Ekberg and from 1964 to 2001 with Johanna Melcher.

In 1975 Steel played alongside Corinne Cléry and Udo Kier in the French romance film The Story of O the role of Sir Stephen.

Steel spent the last years of his life in London, where he died of heart failure in March 2001.
