Two Girls from the Red Star (original title: Duel à la vodka ) is a German-French spy satire film from the heyday of the East-West conflict, directed by Sammy Drechsel . The plot is based on a novel by Peter Norden and depicts a disarmament conference in Geneva in a satirical way. The film plot takes place in the embassies of the superpowers USA and Soviet Union in Vienna , New York City and Geneva as well as at the airports and train stations there. In addition to the main actors Lilli Palmer , Curd Jürgens , Pascale Petit and Daniel Gélin , the cabaret team of the Munich Lach- und Schießgesellschaft is strongly represented by the actors as the secret organization "Bridge Club Geneva". The film opened in theaters on February 25, 1966.

action

Two female members of the Soviet military are supposed to kidnap the new American secret weapon at a disarmament conference. The highlight is the duel between Curd Jürgens and Lilli Palmer and vodka in a diplomatic back room. A stopover on the way to freedom is the editorial office of the major Warner publishing house in the USA. The film ends with a wedding in the context of international understanding .

criticism

“West-Eastern espionage gulk in the UN milieu, prominently made up of Curd Jürgens as head of the US delegation, Lilli Palmer as leader of the Soviet delegation. It is satirically playful about weapons of destruction of the West and the arms race of the superpowers. Sometimes imaginative first film by the cabaret artist Sammy Drechsel with the participation of the Munich Lach- und Schießgesellschaft. "

"Enjoyable satire on the East-West conflict with the participation of the Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschft"

- Heyne Film Lexicon, 1996

"East-western détente and disarmament policy in a friendly, non-binding feature film with the 'Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft'. Since the approaches for satirical, hands-on criticism of the time remain unused, the film (for visitors aged 16 and over) is only moderately enjoyable. "

- Protestant film observer (review No. 69/1966)

"A witty fun from the time of the 'Cold War' with a large portion of humor, tension and eroticism."
