Cardinal Du Prat

Antoine Bohier Du Prat OSB (* around 1460 in Issoire , Auvergne , France , † November 27, 1519 in Blois ) was a French clergyman, bishop and cardinal of the Roman Church.

Life

In his youth Du Prat entered the Benedictine Abbey of Fécamp , where he became abbot in 1509 . He held another abbatiate in St-Ouen Abbey in Rouen. He also held the function of President of the Parliament of Normandy .

On November 13, 1514, at the behest of Queen Mother Luise of Savoy, he was appointed Archbishop of Bourges by Francis I and was probably ordained bishop in 1514. He was granted dispensation to wear the regalia of a secular bishop instead of his Benedictine habit.

Pope Leo X elevated him to cardinal in the consistory of April 1, 1517 and appointed him cardinal priest of the titular church of Sant'Anastasia on May 25, 1517 .

Antoine Bohier Du Prat died two years later in Blois, where the royal court was at that time. He was buried in Bourges Cathedral.
