Antonín Marek
Antonín Marek (pseudonym Bolemír Izborský ) (born September 5, 1785 in Turnov , † February 15, 1877 in Prague ) was a Czech writer and translator.
After finishing high school in 1801 in the Silesian Grüssau , Marek studied philosophy in Prague and from 1804 to 1808 theology in Leitmeritz , where he also met his later friend Josef Jungmann . After his ordination in 1808 he worked as a chaplain in Rožďalovice from 1808/09 , from 1809 to 1813 in Libuň , and from 1813 to 1815 as an administrator in Großskal . In 1820 he became pastor in Týn near Rovensko and from 1823 to 1876 in the rich parish of Libuň. In 1828 he was appointed dean, in 1844 vicar of the bishopric.
person
Marek was one of the leading figures of the Bohemian Enlightenment. Above all, his former teacher and later friend Josef Jungmann had a great influence on his life and thinking.
He worked on Matice česká and Slovanská Lípa , was a member of the Czech National Museum , the Slovak Literature Association and supported the Artistic Association , Svatobor and others. As a teacher supervisor in the Turnau area (1844 to 1858), he propagated progressive learning methods and higher education for teachers.
His enlightened views were based on Slavic unity and commonality, believing in a better future for the united Slavs .
Works
Marek was recognized as a poet and translator. His first poem appeared in 1807. In the 30s and 40s he also wrote entertaining and specialist prose, including articles and essays, in which he made his enlightened thoughts known to the general public. He advocated that not only narrative literature, but also scientific works and specialist articles be published in the Czech language. He also worked on Jungmann's Czech-German dictionary.
He wrote his greatest works at Jungmann's suggestion: Logika (1820) and Metafysika (1844). After the Logika was published, he received general recognition as a philosophical authority; the terms he formed entered scientific terminology. He stuck to the works of Hegel and Kiesewetter , in Metaphysics (1844) to Krug's System of Theoretical Philosophy (Vienna 1818) and partly also to Jaeger's foundations of metaphysics (Vienna 1842).
