Anton Fridrichsen

Anton Johnson Fridrichsen (born January 4, 1888 in Meråker , Norway , † November 16, 1953 in Uppsala , Sweden ) was a Norwegian-Swedish theologian and professor of exegesis at Uppsala University .

Life

Fridrichsen passed his official examination in Oslo in 1911 . He then studied in Germany from 1912 to 1913. In 1912 he joined the Breslau Wingolf and in 1913 the Göttingen Wingolf , to which he belonged all his life. After a few years in pastoral service, he became a lecturer in Oslo with a treatise on the concept of holiness. Fridrichsen received his doctorate in Strasbourg in 1925 with the work Le Problem du miracle dans le chstianisme primitif ( The Problem of Miracles in Early Christianity ), for which he received an honorary doctorate in Marburg in 1927 .

In 1928 he became professor of exegesis of the New Testament in Uppsala. In addition to these works, Fridrichsen published several smaller papers and magazine articles. Some of his writings were addressed to a wider audience, for example Vem ville Jesus vara (Who wanted to be Jesus)? 1931. Fridrichsen also worked for the Swedish reference book under the signature AJF

Fridrichsen founded an internationally known school of exegesis which produced a number of remarkable students. His commitment to the Church mixed with a radical scientific attitude. He was buried on Uppsala Gamla Kyrkogård.

A well-known student of Friedrichsen was the writer and bishop of Gothenburg Bo Giertz .
