Anton Franz Johann Gerhart (born November 1, 1879 in Gmunden , Upper Austria ; † February 22, 1944 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and plaque artist .

Life

Anton Gerhart spent his apprenticeship with the wood sculptor Josef Untersberger sen. (1835–1912) in Gmunden, before moving to Vienna , where he was trained by the famous sculptor Arthur Strasser at the Vienna School of Applied Arts . He created war memorials , such as the one in Bad Goisern . In addition, he created a number of funerary monuments. He also made a statue of Justitia for the town hall in Gmunden and the monument for Franz Stelzhamer in Ried im Innkreis .

In addition to the works mentioned, Gerhart also created numerous portrait busts . He belonged to the artist association of Austrian sculptors founded in 1905. During the First World War , Anton Gerhart executed two soldiers in iron . One of them is in the form of a statue of Kaiser Maximilian in Wels , the other is in his home town of Gmunden. Both were unveiled in 1915.
