Anton Griessen

Anton Griessen (born July 11, 1867 in St. Stephan , † January 25, 1925 in Toffen ) was a Swiss supporter of the Antonians , a specialist historian and biographer .

Life

Anton Griessen was the son of the farmer and blacksmith Christian Griessen and his wife Maria (née Tritten).

He learned the trade of a shoemaker , but gave it up in 1913 and collected the writings and the estate of Anton Unternährer , the founder of the Antonians, through extensive archive work . Among other things, he was referring to a manuscript that Anton Unterstährer wrote in 1805 during his time in custody in Lucerne .

In 1917 his book Hier ist der Herr , published by the theologian Alfred Benteli in Bümplizer Verlag , contained the self-portrayal and beliefs of Anton Unternährer. Its supreme commandment was the commandment of love: "Be fruitful and multiply" ( Genesis 1:28 ). For Anton Unternährer, this commandment was primarily of a pragmatic nature, as he postulated free sexual intercourse between siblings in faith, regardless of whether they were married or single. Anton Griessen understood Anton Unternährer's religious eroticism metaphorically and he considered it to be the returning Christ.

By correspondence, he looked after the small Antonian reading community , which was particularly widespread in the canton of Bern .

Anton Griessen had since 1890 with the Glätterin ( Woman Ironing married) Maria (born Friedrich).
