Anton Mayer-Pfannholz

Anton Mayer-Pfannholz (born November 18, 1891 in Munich ; † June 16, 1982 in Munich) was a university professor and head of the Institute for East Bavarian Homeland Research in Passau .

Mayer was a student at the Munich Wilhelmsgymnasium , which he graduated with a high school diploma in 1910. In 1911 he was admitted to the Maximilianeum . At the University of Munich he was a student of the historian Sigmund von Riezler . In 1915 Mayer received his doctorate. phil. and then taught in various places as a high school teacher. In 1924 he followed the call to the chair for history and art history at the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising , but in 1938 he was "transferred". Mayer, who is extremely committed to the church, caught the attention of the NSDAP officials there . The goal of his transfer: the Philosophical-Theological University of Passau , of which he (co-) headed from 1944 as rector and from 1947 to 1955 as prorector. In 1944 he succeeded Max Heuwieser in two respects : on the one hand as rector of the university, on the other hand as (provisional) head of the Institute for East Bavarian Homeland Research . 1951 the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich honored him with an honorary doctorate in theology; In 1956 he received the papal order of knights from St. Gregory . In the same year Mayer returned to Munich, where he continued to work scientifically. In 1959 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit . Anton Mayer-Pfannholz died on June 16, 1982. His son Christian Anton (1922–2005) worked as a writer under the pseudonym Carl Amery .

Mayer-Pfannholz was a member of the Catholic student association KSSt.V. Alemannia Munich in the KV .
