Anton Philipp Largiadèr

Anton Philipp Largiadèr (born November 25, 1831 in Santa Maria Val Müstair , † December 31, 1903 in Basel ) was a Swiss educator . He was director of various teachers' seminars and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel in 1886 .

Life

Anton Philipp Largiadèr grew up in Val Müstair as the son of a farrier. From 1845 he completed an apprenticeship as a pastry chef in Cologne, which he broke off in 1847. He returned to Switzerland; In 1849 he completed his training in Besançon.

After his return to Switzerland, Largiadèr initially worked as a teacher in Lü and Tschierv. From 1855 to 1857 he attended the Graubünden teacher training college in Chur; At the same time he studied at the ETH Zurich (department for mathematics and physics) and taught at the canton school in Frauenfeld. From 1861 to 1869 he was director of the Bündner teachers 'seminar and from 1869 to 1876 of the teachers' seminar on the Mariaberg in Rorschach. He was a member of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surrounding Area and was responsible for managing Rorschach.

From 1876 he headed the newly founded teachers 'seminar in Pfalzburg (Alsace-Lorraine), and from 1879 the evangelical teachers' seminar in Strasbourg . In 1886 he became school inspector, in 1892 rector of the secondary school for girls in the city of Basel. Until 1899 he headed the Basel teacher training program and taught as a private lecturer in education at the University of Basel, which awarded him an honorary doctorate on May 31, 1886. In 1898 he suffered a stroke with paralysis during a school lesson, from which he no longer properly recovered; he died in 1903.

Anton Philipp Largiadèr was married twice: in 1859 he married Julie Wasser, in 1871 Mina Weber.
