Anton Largiadèr

Anton Largiadèr (born May 17, 1893 in Winterthur , † January 22, 1974 in Zurich ) was a Swiss historian . From 1931 to 1958 he was Zurich State Archives and from 1944 professor at the University of Zurich .

Life

Anton Largiadèr was the son of an engineer and lecturer at the Technikum Winterthur . He graduated from the literary high school in Zurich and from 1913 to 1919 studied history at the University of Zurich (doctorate in 1919). He then worked as a high school teacher. In 1929 he married Lydia Reinhart, daughter of the entrepreneur Paul Reinhart .

In 1931 Anton Largiadèr was appointed Zurich State Archivist and habilitated at the University of Zurich for the history of the Middle Ages . From 1944 he worked as a part-time associate professor for historical auxiliary sciences and Zurich regional history at the University of Zurich. From 1953 to 1969 he chaired the board of trustees of the Pius Foundation .

In 1960 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
