Anton Johann Scharl (* 1957 in Amberg ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician.

Live and act

Anton Scharl was born in Amberg in the Upper Palatinate . He graduated from the Gregor-Mendel-Gymnasium in Amberg. He then studied medicine from 1976 to 1982 at the Universities of Regensburg and Erlangen-Nuremberg , where he received his doctorate in 1983 with the dissertation “Does encephalo- or neuromyosynangiosis lead to extra-intracranial anastomoses?”. He then did his military service as a flight doctor at the Fürstenfeldbruck air base and in the Otto-Lilienthal barracks in Roth. In 1984 he worked as an assistant doctor at the Pathological Institute of the University of Erlangen under Volker Becker. From 1985, Scharl completed his training as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Cologne 's women's clinic under Achim Bolte . With a grant from the German Research Foundation , he worked at the University of Chicago in the Chicago Lying-in Institute in 1989 and 1990. Since 1991 he has been a senior physician and since 1992 a senior physician at the University Women's Clinic in Cologne. In 1993 he was at the University of Cologne on "Metabilisierung and the cytotoxic power of 16alpha-radioiodo-17beta-estradiol" habilitation . In 1997 he moved to the gynecological clinic of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main as deputy clinic director under the direction of Manfred Kaufmann . In 2000 he returned to his hometown Amberg, where he took over the management of the gynecological clinic of the St. Marien Clinic as chief physician as successor to Dietrich Berg . Since 2017 he has been director of the Amberg-Weiden-Tischenreuth women's clinic. He also heads the certified breast center and the certified gynecological cancer center Amberg as well as the perinatal center Amberg-Weiden.

Honors

Anton Scharl is a member of numerous medical societies and holds many offices and functions. Among other things, Scharl was Deputy Chairman of the Gynecological Oncology Working Group (AGO) of the DGGG from 2011 to 2018 and spokesman for the AGO Mamma Commission from 2010 to 2016. From 2014 to 2018 he was a member of the extended board of the German Cancer Society . Since 2002 Scharl has been chairman of the specialist group perinatology, operative gynecology and breast surgery of the BAQ (Bavarian working group for quality assurance in inpatient care). In 2013 he was appointed to the BAQ Board of Trustees. Since 2013 he has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Society for Senology and was co-congress president of the annual conference of the German Society for Senology in 2015. Since 2016 on the board, he was elected President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG) in 2018 . In 2017 he was appointed to the board of the German Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in 2018 to the board of the German Foundation for Women's Health.

Since 2009, Anton Scharl has been listed in the FOCUS doctor list, Germany's top doctor, as an expert in breast cancer and gynecological tumors.
