Anton Ritter von Kalik (born December 2, 1818 in Bohorodczany , Galicia , Austrian Empire , † July 16, 1866 in Altona ) was an Austrian major general and the first head of the registry office , the military intelligence service of the kk monarchy.

Life

The son of a Galician captain was retired from the Theresian Military Academy as a lieutenant in 1830 and transferred to the General Staff in Vienna that same year .

In the revolutionary year of 1848, Kalik, meanwhile a captain, took part in the suppression of the October uprising in Vienna and played a key role in the storming of the Hofburg , which was occupied by the rebels . The following year he took part in the campaign against the uprisings in Hungary and fought in the Battle of Kápolna . In 1850 he was awarded the Military Merit Cross and the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order for his services .

In 1850, Kalik was promoted to colonel and appointed head of the newly established records office, the military intelligence service of the Danube Monarchy. He also worked as a professor in the war school and was entrusted with a diplomatic mission to the Orient. 1858 Kalik was in the equestrian levied.

Promoted to major general in 1864, Kalik handed over the management of the records office to Georg Ritter von Kees and was sent to the German-Danish War at the head of a brigade . His troops ("Brigade Kalik") were stationed in Holstein until 1866 , the administration of which was divided between Prussia and the Danube Monarchy until the outbreak of the Austro-Prussian War . After a long illness, Kalik died on July 16, 1866 in Altona.
