Port of Antonina |
Antonina , officially Portuguese Município de Antonina , is a city in the Brazilian state of Paraná and, according to the 2010 census, had a population of 18,891 inhabitants, the Antoninese ( Portuguese : antoninense ).
The city covers an area of 882 square kilometers and is 90 km from Curitiba , the capital of the state, and 50 km from Paranaguá .
history
Antonina was founded in 1714 and elevated to Villa de Antonia in 1797 .
Antonina's economic boom began in 1873 with the opening of the Estrada da Graciosa, the connection to the hinterland, and in 1891 with the opening of the railway line to Curitiba.
economy
The port of Barão de Tefé was one of the most important ports in Parana at the beginning of the last century. Today the modern Terminal Ponta do Félix, not far from Antonina itself, is the important local port facility.
Paranaguá, with its more favorable geographical location, took over large port capacities in Antonina early on, so attempts are currently being made to develop the city for tourism.
