Antonio Carannante (born June 23, 1965 in Pozzuoli ) is a former Italian football player who spent most of his career at SSC Napoli and was with this Italian champion and cup winner and won the UEFA Cup .
Career
Antonio Carannante was born on June 23, 1965 in Pozzuoli, a small Italian town in the Campania region . As a teenager he came to the youth department of SSC Napoli , where he was accepted into the first team in 1981 under coach Rino Marchesi . In the following eight years until 1989 Antonio Carannante played in the SSC Napoli jersey and was part of the most successful team in the history of the southern Italian club. With players like Diego Maradona , Careca or Andrea Carnevale , the Scudetto , the Italian football championship, was won under coach Ottavio Bianchi in the 1986/87 season . In the league table they finished first with three points ahead of defending champion Juventus Turin . In the same year succeeded with a final victory against Atalanta Bergamo the victory in the Italian soccer cup, the Coppa Italia . Two years later, Antonio Carannante won his third major title with SSC Napoli when German representatives VfB Stuttgart were defeated in the 1988/89 UEFA Cup final. Carannante came on for Alemão in the 30th minute of the second leg of the final and made his last game ever for SSC Napoli in this final game. In previous years, he mostly only acted as a substitute player and only made 69 league games with one goal in seven seasons. In the 1987/88 season he was awarded to Ascoli Calcio and completed there 29 of thirty possible league games.
After leaving Naples in the summer of 1989, Antonio Carannante moved to US Lecce , where he played in the lower range of Serie A football in the following two years and had to relegate in the 1990/91 season . As a result, he worked under the former Neapolitan master coach Alberto Bigon in the first second division year at US Lecce, but the direct rise was missed. Afterwards left Carannante Lecce in 1992 and signed a new contract at FC Piacenza , who is also in the B series was to be found. In 1993, Antonio Carannante made promotion to Serie A with FC Piacenza for the first time in their club history, but as a promoted player the direct relegation had to be accepted. In 1995 Antonio Carannante moved to Serie C1 for the former first division club US Avellino , with whom he reached promotion to Serie B as second in the group B behind Reggina Calcio . Nevertheless, he left Avellino again and joined the SS Nola, where he ended his football career in 1996 at the age of 31.
After the end of his active football career, Antonio Carannante became a coach and worked in various positions at SSC Napoli. For the only time a professional team he took over in 2009 for a short time when he coached the smaller Neapolitan club FC Neapolis Mugnano.
