St. Martinus is the former Roman Catholic parish church in the Cologne district of Esch .

history

Archbishop Sigewin von Are gave the chapter of St. Andrew's Monastery in Cologne a tithing of the parish of Esch as a gift. Archbishop Hermann III. von Hochstaden confirmed this donation in 1091. The parish church incorporated into the Andreasstift was mentioned around 1300 in the liber valoris . The right of collation remained with St. Andreas until secularization .

The core of today's church is still the Romanesque two-nave building. Of the externally visible parts of this church, the tower, the choir and essential parts of the north aisle have been preserved. The Romanesque hall church was originally built in the 11th century, raised around 1200 and expanded to include the side aisle, and finally the late Romanesque tower was added in the 13th century. In 1517 the files of the dean's office in Neuss reported that this church was in a state of disrepair, whereupon a late Gothic renovation and extension was tackled, in the framework of which a south aisle was built and a hall-like vaulting of the interior took place. A sacristy was later added to the choir along the longitudinal axis of the church.

As the new Escher Catholic parish church, St. Mary's Name was built from 1967 to 1969.
