Antonio Mastrogiovanni

Antonio Mastrogiovanni (born July 26, 1936 in Montevideo , † May 1, 2010 ) was a Uruguayan composer and music teacher.

After visiting the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Montevideo, Mastrogiovanni studied from 1963 to 1972 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música of the Universidad de la República , where a. a. Héctor Tosar , Carlos Estrada , Hugo Balzo , Angel Turriziani , Lauro Ayestarán and Humberto De Martini were among his teachers. During two years at the Centro Latinoamericano de Altos Estudios Musicales in Buenos Aires, he worked with Gerardo Gandini , Alberto Ginastera and Francisco Kröpfl .

After studying composition at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de México in 1973 , he studied composition with Franco Donatoni at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan from 1974 and attended courses in electroacoustic music with Angelo Paccagnini at the Instituto de Fonología of the RAI .

He then taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Montevideo, was assistant to Franco Donatoni in his composition courses at the Accademia Chigiana and worked as a professor of harmony, music aesthetics and history at the state music school in Lara / Barquisimeto. He taught counterpoint, orchestration and composition at the music schools Juan José Landaeta and Prudencio Esaá in Caracas. Finally, he was professor of music analysis and composition at the music school of the Universidad de la República in Montevideo.

Mastrogiovanni composed symphonic and chamber music works, theatrical and vocal music and electroacoustic works, which have been performed both in Uruguay and internationally.
