Archbishop Antonio Montero Moreno

Antonio Montero Moreno (born August 28, 1928 in Churriana de la Vega ) is old archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz .

Life

Antonio Montero Moreno was ordained a priest on May 19, 1951 . Paul VI appointed him on April 4, 1969 auxiliary bishop in Seville and titular bishop of Regiana .

The Archbishop of Seville, José María Cardinal Bueno y Monreal , consecrated him bishop on May 17th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Vicente Enrique y Tarancón , Archbishop of Toledo , and Rafael García y García de Castro , Archbishop of Granada .

On May 3, 1980 he was appointed Bishop of Badajoz . On July 28, 1994 he was appointed Archbishop of Mérida- Badajoz. On July 9, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

His dissertation, published in 1961, was devoted to the "History of Religious Persecution in Spain 1936–39". In the 1960s he was involved in a literary magazine alongside other young clergymen (such as José Luis Martín Descalzo ).
