Antonio Sebastiano Minturno
Antonio Sebastiano Minturno , Latinized Antonius Sebastianus Minturnus (* 1500 in Traietto ( Minturno ), † 1574 in Crotone ), was an Italian bishop , man of letters and humanist .
Life
Minturno studied philosophy with Agostino Nifo . He was appointed Bishop of Ugento in Apulia on January 27, 1559 and took part in this capacity at the Council of Trent . On July 13, 1565 he became Bishop of Crotone in Calabria .
He is best known as the author of a poetics written in Italian ( L'arte poetica , 1564), an extremely complete discussion of previous theories of poetry and drama, a work that is heavily influenced by Aristotle and Horace , although Minturno himself has something to say .
