Antonio Tapia Flores (born November 13, 1949 in Baena , Córdoba Province ) is a Spanish football coach and former player who has coached numerous Spanish teams.

Player career

Antonio Tapia's footballing career was not very spectacular and very short. In addition to the amateur club CD Fuengirola , he played briefly with Atlético Malagueño , as FC Málaga was called before it was renamed in 1994.

Coaching career

Amateur and assistant coach

After the end of his career as a player, he became a coach at the amateur club CD Mijas at the age of 27 . After three years, the native Andalusian took over his ex-club CD Fuengirola for which he was already active as a player. After another stint at a "no-name" club, he became assistant coach in 1994 at Malaga FC, which had crashed into Segunda Division B. He also played for himself. After two years he left the club to work as an assistant coach at FC Cádiz .

Poli ejido

As head coach Antonio Tapia took over the Tercera División - Club Polideportivo Ejido in the summer of 1997 . With the Andalusians, he rose twice in a row and made the march from the fourth to the second Spanish league in 2000 and 2001. In the first season in the Segunda División , relegation could only be secured on the last day of the long distance duel with Gimnàstic de Tarragona and UD Levante .

Málaga CF

In the summer of 2002, Antonio Tapia took over the second team of FC Málaga , which he immediately led into the Segunda División and held in the league. Thanks to this achievement, he was entrusted with the post of head coach for the first team of FC Málaga for the 2005/2006 season. But in the first division he could not stop the unprecedented crash of his team and was sacked after the first half of the season (his team had lost 3-1 at Espanyol). At the end of the season there was a disappointing last place.

The last few years

For the 2006/2007 season Antonio Tapia returned to his old place of work Polideportivo Ejido . He led the relegation candidate to a sovereign midfield position. In the 2007/2008 season he coached the ambitious second division club FC Granada 74 with whom he was completely surprisingly relegated to Segunda División B , which is why he was dismissed. However, since the previous coach of FC Málaga , Muniz, went to the first division club Racing Santander , Antonio Tapia got the opportunity to train his ex-club Málaga in the first division, where he signed a one-year contract with an option for another year in summer 2008.
