Cardinal Antonio Zapata

Antonio Zapata y Cisneros (born October 8, 1550 in Madrid , † April 27, 1635 there ) was a Spanish cardinal .

He is one of the so-called crown cardinals and owed his appointment as cardinal in 1604 to the work of the ministerial minister, Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas . Unlike the Spanish Crown Cardinal Bernardo de Sandoval y Rojas , who was also in office at the same time , he stayed in Rome for twelve years after his appointment and represented his country, more precisely the Spanish royal court , at the Curia . Both in the conclave of May 1605 , from which Camillo Borghese emerged as Pope Paul V , and in the conclave of 1621 Zapata was the Spanish voting leader. In the conclave of 1605 he made sure that a candidate suitable for the Spanish crown was successful. He was Viceroy of Naples and Grand Inquisitor of Spain from 1627 to 1632 .
