The Anwar Mosque ( Urdu مسجد انوار DMG Masǧid Anwār , German 'mosque of lights' ) is a mosque in the Hessian town of Rodgau . It has existed since 2008 and is operated by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (AMJ).

history

The Anwar Mosque was built as part of the 100 mosques program . It is the tenth new mosque of the Ahmadiyya in Hesse. There were reservations in the population against the construction, but no resistance.

The foundation stone was laid on December 29, 2006 by Mirza Masroor Ahmad , the 5th caliph and head of the AMJ. The caliph opened the mosque on August 19, 2008. On May 17, 2009, a reception was held for the opening with 170 invited guests.

building

The Anwar Mosque is located in the commercial area of the Rodgau district of Jügesheim at Justus-von-Liebig-Straße 10. It is the first mosque in the Offenbach district to have a minaret .

The structure is about seven meters high and has two floors. It stands on a plot of 1034 m². The minaret is twelve meters high and has no function. The dome with a diameter of five meters is placed on the flat roof and cannot be seen from the inside.

The design comes from the architect Mubashra Ilyas, who had already planned mosques in Offenbach , Stuhr near Bremen and Berlin-Heinersdorf . The prayer halls are inside towards Mecca aligned, however, the structure is from the outside parallel to the road.

Two prayer halls of 95 m² each offer space for 190 people to pray - women on the ground floor and men on the upper floor. The prayer niche for the Imam is on the upper floor. His sermon is broadcast through loudspeakers on the ground floor.

In addition to the prayer rooms, the building contains ablution rooms, two offices and a small kitchen.

The construction costs amounted to 679,000 euros.

Mosque community

The local community of the AMJ has existed since 1985. According to its own information, it had more than 200 members in 2009.

At first the believers met in changing apartments. After a few years they rented a prayer room in an industrial park in the Dudenhofen district, which they used for about ten years.
