Anya Chalotra (born 1995 or 1996 in Wolverhampton , England ) is a British actress .

Life

Chalotra grew up in Lower Penn, South Staffordshire, in a British-Indian family. Her father is Indian and her mother is British. She attended St. Dominic's Grammar School for Girls in Brewood, where she participated in school theater performances. She received her acting training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). She later studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , graduating in 2017.

After completing her training, she appeared on stage in Much Ado About Nothing But Leonato's Daughter Hero at Shakespeare's Globe in 2017 . For her performance she was nominated in the category Best Actress in a Play at The Stage Debut Awards . At the Theater Royal Stratford East she played the lead role of Jyoti in The Village in 2018 . In 2019 she was seen at the National Theater in Peer Gynt by David Hare based on the drama of the same name by Henrik Ibsen in a coproduction with the Edinburgh International Festival as Sabine.

In 2018, she played the role of Jennifer Ashman in the television series Wanderlust , a co-production by BBC One and Netflix with Toni Collette and Steven Mackintosh in the lead roles. In the three-part miniseries The Murders of Mr ABC , an adaptation of the eponymous crime novel by Agatha Christie for the BBC with John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot, she played the role of Lily Marbury. She lent Robin Loxley her voice for the animated YouTube premium series Sherwood , inspired by the legend of Robin Hood .

In October 2018 it was announced that she would play the role of the sorceress Yennefer von Vengerberg in the Netflix series The Witcher with Henry Cavill as Geralt von Riva and Freya Allan as Princess Ciri .
