Apel Vitzthum the Elder

Apel Vitzthum the Elder zu Tannroda († 1425 ) was a German knight and bailiff of Hohenberg .

He comes from the old Thuringian noble family Vitzthum and was the son of the knight Busso Vitzthum († 1384). From 1407-1417 he is in the service of Frederick the peacemakers , Margrave of Meissen and Landgrave of Thuringia , then changed but to the court, detectable Frederick the Belligerent and William the rich , from where he in 1422 to the King and later Emperor Sigmund was sent . On June 4, 1422 Apel Vitzthum stayed as bailiff of Hohenberg next to Count Oswalt von Truhendingen , Hans von Sparneck , Erhart von Machwitz , Conrad von Aufseß , Caspar von Waldenfels and Hans von Seebach at Schleiz Castle , where a peace alliance to secure the country roads against Robbery and drudgery between Elector Friedrich von Brandenburg and Landgrave Friedrich the Elder , Wilhelm and Friedrich the Younger of Thuringia were concluded and mutual help was promised. Apel Vitzthum had to undertake to ensure that his successor in the position of bailiff von Hohenberg should commit himself to the concluded peace alliance in Weida .
