Friedrich IV. (Meissen and Thuringia)
. Frederick IV , the peaceable , and the Simple and the Younger (* before November thirtieth 1384 ; † 7. May 1440 on the Runneburg in Weissensee ) from the gender of Wettin was Margrave of Meissen and Landgrave of Thuringia .
Life
Friedrich was the son of Balthasar von Thuringia . In 1407 the Landgrave married Countess Anna († 1431), the daughter of Count Günther XXX. from Schwarzburg-Blankenburg . There were no children from this marriage.
Landgrave Friedrich is considered to be a relatively weak ruler who was at times very dependent on the influence of his wife and her relatives. To finance his lavish court rulings, he repeatedly sold large amounts of titles and lands.
In 1436 he ordered a general expulsion of the Jews from the Landgraviate of Thuringia.
After his childless death, the Landgraviate of Thuringia fell to his two cousins, Friedrich II and Wilhelm III . Years earlier, he had ceded the claim to the more distant Meissnian areas for 15,000 guilders.
