history

The Apostolic Prefecture of Tongzhou was founded on November 3, 1931 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Litteris apostolicis from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Xi'an as Mission sui juris Tongzhou . The Mission sui juris Tongzhou was on April 8, 1935 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maioris dignitatis raised to the Apostolic Prefecture.
