history

The Apostolic Prefecture of Gambella was established on November 16, 2000 by Pope John Paul II from cession of the Apostolic Prefecture of Jimma-Bonga . On December 5, 2009, the Apostolic Prefecture Gambella was founded by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the apostolic vicariate. The former Apostolic Prefect Angelo Moreschi SDB became the first Vicar Apostolic .
