Angelo Moreschi

Angelo Moreschi SDB (born June 13, 1952 in Nave , Province of Brescia ; † March 25, 2020 in Brescia ) was an Italian Roman Catholic religious , titular bishop and Apostolic Vicar of Gambella ( Ethiopia ).

Life

Angelo Moreschi entered the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Albarè di Costermano at the age of 21 and took his first religious vows on September 1, 1974 . He made his perpetual profession on August 15, 1980 in the Salesian Monastery of Cremisan in Bethlehem and was ordained a priest on October 2, 1982 in Brescia . Since 1991 he lived as a missionary in Ethiopia, where he worked in the Salesian Mission in Dilla and founded several mission schools, farms and vocational training centers there.

On November 16, 2000, he was appointed Prefect of the Apostolic Prefecture of Gambella by Pope John Paul II , and on February 25, 2001, he took over the leadership. With the elevation of the prefecture to the Apostolic Vicariate Gambella on December 5, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Elephantaris in Mauretania and Vicar Apostolic of Gambella. He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Addis Ababa , Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel CM , on January 31, 2010; Co- consecrators were Tesfay Medhin , Bishop of Adigrat , and Lorenzo Ceresoli MCCJ , Emeritus Vicar Apostolic of Awasa .

Moreschi died in March 2020 at the age of 67 during the COVID-19 pandemic of the consequences of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. In an appreciation of his order, his commitment to the youth and the poor is highlighted.
