history
The Apostolic Vicariate of Jimma- Bonga was established on June 10, 1994 by Pope John Paul II from the cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte as the Apostolic Prefecture of Jimma-Bonga . The Apostolic Prefecture Jimma-Bonga gave up on November 16, 2000 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Gambella . On December 5, 2009, the Apostolic Prefecture Jimma-Bonga was founded by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the apostolic vicariate.
