Ice Plant is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae).
description
The species of the genus Aptenia are prostrate or lying to upright small shrubs or climbing plants , which usually have fibrous roots and only rarely fleshy rhizomes. The internodes are square or twisting and slightly woody. The green bark is succulent and contains additional vascular bundles with tightly packed, xeromorphic bladder cells . Their flat or almost cylindrical leaves are heart-shaped, egg-shaped, lanceolate or linear. They are stalked or sessile. The leaves are arranged opposite to one another and sometimes become almost alternate on the inflorescence . They are usually not grown together at the base. They rarely contain some enlarged water-storing cells.
The flowers appear individually or form a wenigblütige Zyme . The flowers are short stalked and have a diameter of 15 to 35 millimeters. The four sepals are fused or free. The white, pale yellow or pink petals are fused together to form a short tube at the base. Thread-like staminodes may be present or absent. The nectaries are shell-shaped.
The four-compartment capsule fruits can have flap wings. The capsule fruits contain blackish brown, D-shaped seeds with a rough seed coat .
