history

The ensemble was founded in 1990 by the musicians Ulrich Ludat and Armin Sommer and was the only ensemble in its line-up that had worked continuously for almost 18 years on expanding the repertoire for the line-up of recorder (s) and drums. It worked with composers such as Michael Beil , Mesias Maiguashca , Harald Muenz , Bernfried Pröve , Gerhard Stäbler and Annette Schlünz .

The ensemble was based in Saarbrücken , its rehearsal room was initially also there, but was later relocated to Offenbach an der Queich .

The ensemble has performed numerous concerts across Germany, a few times to neighboring France and once even to Los Angeles.

In the early days of the ensemble, still known as the Duo Archeopteryx , the repertoire consisted exclusively of compositions for recorder (s) and percussion. Since this was quantitatively very limited and, apart from a few exceptions, did not meet professional standards, the members of the ensemble initially commissioned new works from composer friends. Commissions for compositions from renowned composers followed later. The original line-up turned out to be problematic, for example because the instruments used by the two performers belong to very different dynamic worlds. Therefore, experiments with amplification were soon started, which then led to the use of prefabricated audio feeds (tape) and live electronics. In particular, the recorder player of the ensemble gradually abandoned his traditional instruments towards the end of the ensemble's existence in order to turn to other sound-generating methods and performance.

In 1994 the founders of the ensemble received the cultural grant from the state capital Saarbrücken . The concerts of the ensemble [archae.o.pteryx] were supported by the German Music Council , the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer , the state capital Saarbrücken and numerous other institutions promoting culture. In 2005 the ensemble was proposed for inclusion in the cultural program of the Goethe Institute .

At the end of 2006 the ensemble officially ceased its collaboration, but performed a few more times in 2007.
