Nero Wolfe Award
The Nero Wolfe Award (short: Nero Award ) is a US literary award for crime literature that is awarded annually. The award is named after a fictional character by the American writer Rex Stout . Together with his private detective Nero Wolfe, he created a famous serial and cult figure in crime history in 33 novels and 41 stories. The City of New York and the Nero Wolfe Society even put a bronze plaque on Nero Wolfe's "novel residence" (454 West, 35th Street, New York, NY 10001) in memory of Rex Stout and his idiosyncratic detective. Together with his assistant Archie Goodwin , who reproduces the experiences in the novels in first person form , he has created a large fan base worldwide.
The actual prize, a fantasy bust of the detective Nero Wolfe, has been awarded since 1979 by the New York Nero Wolfe Society (nickname: "The Wolfe Pack") at a special event, the "Black Orchid Banquet".
In addition to the Nero Award , the company has been presenting another award for the life's work (Lifetime Achievement Award) of crime writers since 2005: the Archie Goodwin Award , which is given out at irregular intervals and is named after Wolfe's assistant. For the first time in 2007, the Nero Wolfe Society awarded an award for the best, previously unpublished first work by an author, the Black Orchid Award (also known as the Black Orchid Novella Award ) - based on Rex Stout's 1942 novel Black Orchids . Works submitted to the jury should follow the tradition of Rex Stout's novellas . The selection at this award ceremony is "blind", i. H. Only manuscripts that are not identified by name will be presented to the jury. The name of the winner will only be announced after the jury's decision. The winning story will be published in the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine .
