The Arctic is a former salvage tug that was converted into a mega yacht in 1994 .

history

The ship was built in 1969 by F. Schichau Aktiengesellschaft ( construction number 1746) in Bremerhaven . The hull was subcontracted to the Rickmers shipyard ( hull number 345). On December 30, 1969, the Arctic could be delivered to the Bugsier-, Reederei- und Bergungsgesellschaft . With a bollard pull of 189 tbp, she was, like her sister ship Oceanic , one of the most powerful tugs at the time. In 1972, the Arctic took over the towing of the cruise ship Lindblad Explorer, which ran aground in the Antarctic, and was equipped with two Kort nozzles at Schichau Unterweser in 1975 . Ten years later, she received two new main engines at the same shipyard. Until 1990 the Arctic was used by the towing, shipping and rescue company. It was sold to the Dublin company Magenta Investment in 1993 and initially renamed Arctic Research .

Model of the Arctic as a yacht

The conversion to the mega yacht Arctic P took place at the Malta Shipyards . After that, the ship received a new IMO number and, at the latest, had been given its original name since 2014. The owner is the Australian entrepreneur James Packer , the son of Kerry Packer .
