The Arda is a tributary of the Po in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna . It rises at an altitude of 1200 meters in the Ligurian Apennines on the northwest slopes of Monte Lama near the municipality of Morfasso . 15 kilometers after its source, the river feeds the approximately 2 km² large reservoir Lago di Mignano at an altitude of 341 meters. It serves both the water supply and the generation of electricity.
Before the Arda reaches the Po Valley , it flows through the municipalities of Lugagnano Val d'Arda and Castell'Arquato . Shortly before its mouth at Polesine Parmense , it connects with the Ongina . Like many rivers in the Apennines, the Arda carries significantly more water in spring and autumn than in summer.
