The Aries was a high-speed ferry of the Italian shipping company Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione put into service in 1998 . The short-lived ship was decommissioned in 2003 after five years of service due to high operating costs and was scrapped in 2011 after eight years in Aliağa, Turkey .

history

The Aries was launched in January 1998 under the hull number 6008 in the Fincantieri shipyard in Riva Trigoso and was delivered to the Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione on May 29, 1998. The commissioning took place on June 16, 1998 on the route from Civitavecchia to Olbia . The ship belonged to a class of four fast ferries known as the Jupiter MDV 3000 .

From June 1999 the Aries was in use between Genoa , Olbia and Porto Torres before switching back to the route from Civitavecchia to Olbia in 2003. In the same year, however, the ship was decommissioned after only five years due to excessively high operating costs and laid up in Naples .

Since June 2008 the Aries was in Genoa, a new operator could not be found for the fast ferry. After eight years of berth, the only 13-year-old ship was sold to Aliağa for demolition in July 2011, where it was pulled onto the beach on August 16.
