Aristide Fenster (born August 16, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German diplomat and was last German ambassador to Uzbekistan from 2012 to 2013 . In 2013, he took early retirement for health reasons.

Life

After graduating from high school , Fenster studied history and Slavic studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main between 1970 and 1976 . He then worked for six years as a university assistant for Eastern European history at the universities in Frankfurt and Giessen . He was then from 1976 to 1979 and then again between 1980 and 1982 research assistant for Eastern European History at the University of Frankfurt am Main and the Justus Liebig University in Gießen at the chair of Professor Klaus Zernack . In the meantime he received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes for a doctorate , which he received in 1981 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University with a dissertation on the subject of nobility and the economy in pre-industrial Russia: the entrepreneurial activity of landowners in large-scale business in the 17th and 18th centuries . Completed 18th century .

In 1982 he joined the Foreign Service . From 1985 to 1988 he worked at the German embassy in Warsaw . After a further assignment at the embassy in the USA , he was permanent representative of the ambassador in Finland between 1999 and 2002 .

From 2002 to 2005 he was Head of Division in the Foreign Office in the Departments for Europe, United Nations and Global Issues and then until 2008 Permanent Representative of the Ambassador and Envoy to the German Embassy in Beijing . From 2008 to 2012 Aristide Fenster was German Consul General in Kaliningrad , Russia , formerly Königsberg. From 2012 until his early retirement due to illness in 2013, he was the German ambassador in Tashkent, Uzbekistan .

Aristide Fenster is married and has two daughters.
