Arman Manukyan

Arman Manukyan (or Manugyan ; born March 21, 1931 in Istanbul ; † December 28, 2012 there ) was a Turkish economist of Armenian descent.

biography

The Armenian Christian Arman Manukyan was born in the Tahta Minare district of Istanbul. His father Artin fought in the Battle of Gallipoli near Çanakkale and was awarded the Independence Medal ( İstiklâl Madalyasi ) of the new Turkish nation state. Artin was a shoe store owner and was 30 years old when he married Eliz in 1930; the couple had their first son Arman in 1931. Manukyan began his education in 1938 at the Armenian Private School Pangaltı in the Şişli district of the city of Istanbul. He enrolled at Robert College in 1945 . There he met Talat Halman , Rahmi Koç , Oktay Yenal and others and received his doctorate in economics and trade in 1951. Manukyan often traveled abroad for his father's business, including six to Japan . After his military service from 1953 in the Turkish army , he met his future wife Alis during his summer vacation on the prince island of Kınalıada . On September 13, 1956 he became a professor. He continued his studies at the University of Miami . His wife also became a student at the University of Miami in the Department of Music. Arman Manukyan published his first book there, The History and Evolution of Accounting, in 1960. Arman and Alis Manukyan had their first son Roy immediately after the book was published. The couple decided to move back to Turkey and Arman Manukyan continued his professorial career at Robert College. He began teaching at Bosphorus University in 1971 and retired in 1982. Among his students were Güler Sabancı , Tansu Çiller , Ömer Dinçkök , Jak Kamhi and others. Even after his retirement, he continued to teach at least once a week.
