Armin Eidherr

Armin Eidherr (born January 1, 1963 in Wels ) is an Austrian Yiddist , Germanist and writer .

Life

Eidherr studied Classical Philology and Art History from 1983/84, and German and Romance Studies from 1984 to 1993 in Salzburg. In 1994/95 he worked as a teacher at the Colegio Alemán in Villarrica , Chile ; 1995 to 1998 as an exchange lecturer for German studies in Pisa , Italy . Since autumn 1998 he has lived and worked in Salzburg as a translator, writer and from 1999 as a university lecturer at the Institute for German Studies.

In 2000 he was awarded the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Translation by the German Academy for Language and Poetry because, as the jury stated, “he translated very different works of Yiddish literature into German with empathy and imagination Above all, as the editor of the Yiddish Library, he ensures that this literature in the diversity of its facets is present in German for today's reader. "

In 2001 and 2002 he worked on the now completed research project “Austrian writers in exile since 1933”. Since January 10, 2005 he has been working as a research assistant at the Center for Jewish Cultural History at the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg .

In the summer semester of 2007 he accepted a visiting professorship for Yiddish studies at the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna . Since March 1, 2008 he has been a research assistant at the Department of German Studies (Modern German Literature).
