Armin Georgi

Armin Georgi (born June 15, 1927 in Leipzig , † April 25, 2013 in Potsdam ) was a German documentary filmmaker and dramaturge . Between 1957 and 1989 he produced around 48 documentaries in the DEFA studio for documentary films in Potsdam-Babelsberg .

Life

Armin Georgi, a trained metalworker , passed the secondary school leaving certificate in 1943 and was an Air Force helper and marine until the end of the war . After a short period as a prisoner of war, he worked in Leipzig from 1946 as a former at VEB Leipziger Eisen- und Stahlwerke. From 1947 to 1950 he studied at the workers and farmers faculty and the agricultural faculty of the University of Leipzig and then worked as an animal breeder.

In 1954 Georgi received an offer from DEFA to work as a dramaturge for agriculture and biology in the DEFA studio for popular science films. There he worked as a dramaturge until 1967 , later as the main dramaturge . From 1969 until 1989 he worked as a director in the DEFA studio for short films (later DEFA studio for documentaries). He produced around 48 documentaries, including around 20 films for German television . The rights to these films are now in the German Broadcasting Archive .

Georgi was married to Yvonne Merin for the second time . He died in Potsdam in 2013. His written estate is in the archive of the Filmmuseum Potsdam .
