Matters of opinion is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Armin Georgi from 1974.

action

The film begins by thinking about what to see and read on the front and back of postcards. Since this is Berlin , a connection to Heinrich Heine , who studied in here, is quickly found. Manfred Krug sings his poem. They sat and drank at the tea table , which is about love. The singing is accompanied by drawings from earlier times. Current recordings are then shown, with the comment that there have always been people who didn't like Berlin. These include Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Heinrich Heine. Coming back to the song just sung, strollers are asked cheerfully and ironically about platonic love. The answers range from “Don't give it” to “I'm not from here, I can't tell you” to “We don't need that here in the GDR”.

It continues with the text In the wonderful month of May by Heinrich Heine and the music by Robert Schumann . Poetic and lively, the film shows what also interested Heine: love. In a photo that shows a young couple on their way to the registry office, Manfred Krug expresses a Berlin opinion that is certainly to be expected from him: “The stupid don't stop”, but those who say that also say “Yes” themselves. But autumn is sure to come and then you sit on a bench in the park and talk to birds. Still, the couple got a serenade when they left the registry office. Of course, this text is again by Heinrich Heine: When spring comes with sunshine . Heinrich Heine's views are confronted with the Berlin of today, which he would certainly not recognize.
