Arnold Künzli (philosopher)

Arnold Künzli (born June 15, 1919 in Zurich ; † February 29, 2008 in Bremgarten near Bern ) was a Swiss political scientist , philosopher and radical democrat .

Life

Künzli spent his childhood in Zagreb , later he attended high school in Bern . From 1938 to 1945 he studied philosophy, German and Romance languages ​​at the University of Zurich . After the Second World War , Künzli, who was married to the Italian journalist Franca Magnani from 1944 to 1952, worked for ten years as a foreign correspondent for the Basler “ National-Zeitung ” in Rome, London and Bonn. He later worked as an editor of the "National-Zeitung", where he earned the reputation of a nonconformist. 1964 followed his habilitation for philosophy of politics at the University of Basel . From 1972 to 1984 he was associate professor for political philosophy at the University of Basel.

According to Künzli's understanding of politics and inalienable human rights, the values ​​of the French Revolution - freedom, equality and fraternity - are only half realized because the property and economic system were not included.
