Arnold Moritz Holtermann

Arnold Moritz Holtermann (born November 15, 1627 in Rheda , † April 28, 1681 in Marburg ) was a German legal scholar and university professor .

Life

Holtermann was the son of the court master at Rheda Castle and a doctorate in law, the privy councilor Bernhard Holtermann. He attended high school in Steinfurt and then studied law , philosophy and classical antiquity at the University of Deventer . After positions from 1649 at the universities in Leyden , Utrecht and Groningen , he went to the University of Heidelberg and finally to the University of Basel , where he worked on October 28, 1651 with his work Ad l. ult. Cod. de edicto D. Hadriani tollendo was awarded a doctorate in both rights .

During a trip to Italy in 1653 Holter man received a reputation as a professor of history and shortly afterwards the rights to high school in Steinfurt. He turned down an offer from the University of Franeker in 1656 . In 1658 he made a trip to England with some Swiss nobles . After returning from England in 1661 he accepted the appointment as a full professor of history and eloquence as well as an extraordinary professor of law at the University of Marburg . Shortly afterwards, in 1662, he became the fourth full professor of law, as professor of institutions. From 1674 he was the third full professor of law. In 1670 Holtermann was dean of the law faculty and rector of the University of Marburg. He held the latter office again in 1679/80.

In 1666 Holtermann received the title of Hessian council. He declined calls from other universities, including Groningen in 1666, as well as a repeated one to Franeker and 1677 to Heidelberg.

Holtermann has an extensive literary activity, comprising over 100 numbers, in which he explicitly turns against lawyers in some , which has given him a large number of discussions and replies.
