Arnold Richard Klemola (born February 20, 1931 in Pomfret , Connecticut , † January 5, 2019 ) was an American astronomer . He worked at the Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton in California .
Klemola was the discoverer or co-discoverer of 16 asteroids as well as the comet 68P / Klemola . He made most of his discoveries with Carlos Cesco .
The asteroid (1723) Klemola was named after him and the headmistress and amateur astronomer Irja Klemola from Turku .
He died at the age of 87 in January 2019.
