Arnulf Schröder

Arnulf Schröder (born June 13, 1903 in Munich ; † December 22, 1960 there ) was a German actor and director .

Life

After secondary school and dance training with Claire Bauroff and acting lessons with Carl Graumann, he made his debut in 1920 at the Münchner Kammerspiele as Hänschen in Spring Awakening . In 1921 he got an engagement in Kaiserslautern .

He then worked in Hanover and from 1925 to 1927 at the Schauspielhaus in Munich. From 1927 to 1930 he worked at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and in 1929 he helped found the cabaret Die Katakombe . In 1930 he returned to Munich, where he also worked as a theater director from 1932 and from 1942 as director of the Bavarian State Theaters. At the same time, he headed the State Drama School he founded in Munich from 1935.

From 1933 Schröder took up film offers, but rarely got beyond short appearances. From 1950 to 1954 he worked in Ankara , where he was professor at the State Conservatory for actor training from 1951 to 1953 and was the chief director of the Turkish State Theaters. He then edited and staged classical dramas and worked as a radio play speaker for Bavarian Radio . Occasionally he worked as a voice actor .

Arnulf Schröder was buried in the north cemetery in Munich .
