Arrufiat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arrufiat , also Arrufiac or Ruffiac , is an old white grape variety that is grown in the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in southwest France (in Gascon ). It is part of the appellations - wines Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh and Tursan (but not in the Béarn , where it was confused with the Raffiat de Moncade variety ) or in the Vin Delimité de Qualité Supérieur -Wein Côtes de Saint-Mont , otherwise it is but rarely used. The wines produced from it do not have particularly high alcohol levels, but have an intense aroma that is sometimes vaguely reminiscent of a Madeira wine . The Arruffiac is often a blending partner of the Courbu .

In France, at the end of the 1990s, 123 hectares of vines were raised. However, it is assumed that the area will continue to decrease as new plantings are hardly known.

The clones 405, 652, 653, 921 and 922 are approved for quality wine growing. The first two clones mentioned produce the best quality results.

A study published in 2007 suggests that the white arrufiate is genetically closely related to the Verdot grape family (e.g. Petit Verdot ). Arrufiat is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
