Arsinee Khanjian

Arsinée Khanjian (born September 6, 1958 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is an Armenian actress and film producer living in Canada .

Life and accomplishments

Born to Armenian parents, she grew up in Beirut. In 1975 her parents fled to Canada. Inspired by her parents, Khanjian began studying at Concordia University , where she earned a bachelor's degree in French and Spanish. She then moved to the University of Toronto , where she earned a master's degree in political science . Her husband Atom Egoyan encouraged her to take up acting.

Khanijan appears in some of her husband's films, but has also directed many other film projects. She played in the film Das Haus der Lerchen (original title: La masseria delle allodole ), which caused a sensation at the 2007 Berlinale . The politically explosive film was shown outside of the competition at the Berlinale and is about the genocide of the Armenians , which began in 1915 in what is now Turkey and is denied by official Turkey.

In 1999, Khanjian won the Gemini Award for Best Dramatic Lead Actress for the television series Foolish Heart . In 2006 she received the Genie Award for Best Actress for the film Sabah .
